DETAILS: Whiskey Rocks is just the getaway you need—close enough to party and play in Palm Springs yet far enough from downtown to relax and chill in this exquisite 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom mid-century bungalow designed by award-winning midcentury architect Hugh Kaptur. This any-size-dog-friendly retreat sits at the end of a cul-de-sac in a very quiet and safe neighborhood with fantastic neighbors and no through traffic. The owners take pride in being allies as well.
Everything starts outside in Palm Springs. The private wrap-around courtyard sits at the highest point in the neighborhood, offering maximum privacy. There’s a heated pool, outdoor shower, large spa, pool toys, cooling misters, and a hammock. Each bedroom has its own patio sitting area. There is a secluded firepit with comfortable seating, and an outdoor kitchen featuring a gas grill.
Inside, the kitchen offers a huge island with seating. Appliances include an air fryer, Instant Pot, Cuisinart, and an ice cream maker. There are reusable water bottles for hiking and plastic glasses and dishware for poolside use. Coffee is a priority here. There’s a Nespresso Vertuo, Keurig, a French press, and a regular drip coffeemaker. The kitchen opens onto the dining room with seating for 6 under the midcentury Sputnik chandelier. There’s an extra-large Frame TV with streaming services and a remote-controlled fireplace. The front closet holds a large selection of games and puzzles.
The primary bedroom features a king bed, a large flatscreen TV, a walk-in closet, a remote-controlled electric fireplace, and Alexa-controlled blackout shades that open to a spectacular mountain view. The large private bathroom offers a walk-in rain shower and a sliding door to the pool.
The guest bedroom is so extraordinary it has its own name: The Rock and Roll Guestroom. Guests are surrounded by years of memorabilia from their favorite rock bands. Enjoy a large flatscreen TV, ample closet space, a road case desk to plan your next tour, and a Marshall Amp minifridge for those late-night meet-and-greets.
Adjacent is the NASA Office/Bedroom. This midcentury-inspired office features a large desk and flat-screen TV with streaming services that doubles as a computer monitor. There’s also a large aircraft dispatcher wall clock. The couch folds over into a queen-size memory foam bed—and it is beyond comfortable.
Welcome to the guest bathroom, a bathroom like no other. It’s called The Library and features a walk-in tiled shower and books written by the owners. There’s even a framed fan letter from a former U.S. President.
Whiskey Rocks also provides garage parking for 1 vehicle—plus 2 cruiser-styled bikes—making it easy to explore from downtown (10 mins) to Joshua Tree National Park (1 hour). They went out of their way to meet me upon my arrival even though it was after hours and made sure I had had contact info should I need anything. They were also very responsive when I had questions or needed to confirm. In addition they had the home cool, with nice welcoming music on and shades open ready to welcome me and my stay.

My partner and I are building a house in Palm Springs and visit often to check on the progress. Whiskey Rocks was perfect for our frequent stays. It was close to our job site and ideally located: convenient to shopping and a gym, while not being too far north or east where wind is an issue. We loved the private pool area and outdoor grill, the incredible mountain views (you can see the tram at night!), the well-stocked kitchen, the comfort, the quiet neighborhood, and more. We can't recommend it enough!
