Sam
I wanted to follow up regarding our recent stay at Mountain Lake Condo Unit 401B in Big Sky.
First, I want to share that we truly appreciated many aspects of the property. The condo itself was beautifully designed, spacious, and very well stocked. The layout worked great for our group, and the location made for an easy and enjoyable experience getting to and from the resort.
That said, I do need to raise a concern regarding the advertised amenities—specifically the pool and hot tub—which were a significant factor in our decision to book this property at a premium price point.
The listing highlighted “resort-style amenities including a hot tub and pool,” and included images of both. However, during our stay:
The pool was fully drained and contained visible debris/garbage
There was no prior communication indicating the pool would be unavailable
The hot tub was not in a condition that allowed for a normal, relaxing experience due to excessive chlorine levels
We intentionally selected this property over slope-side options—despite higher cost—because of the expectation of a quieter, private pool and hot tub experience after long ski days (which, as you know, are a significant investment at Big Sky). Had we known these amenities were not available or not usable, we would have made a different booking decision.
While I understand that rental agreements often outline general limitations around amenities, the condition and complete unavailability of the pool—paired with no proactive communication—felt materially different than what was represented.
Out of respect for our time on the trip, I chose not to raise this during our stay and instead focused on alternative ways for our group to relax and enjoy the experience. However, I do feel this warrants follow-up.
Given the above, I believe a $600 partial refund is a fair and reasonable resolution for the discrepancy between what was advertised and what was available during our stay.
We genuinely enjoyed the property itself and would consider booking with your team again, but transparency and accuracy around amenities are very important in making that decision.
Thank you for your time and consideration—I look forward to hearing from you.
Best,
Sam Schmidt
