Color can be iconic. Don’t believe us? Take a look at Villa Sierra, or, as it is famously known, “That Pink Door House.”
Who knew something as simple as repainting a door from dark brown to vivid pink would have such an impact on people? Colombian interior designer and photographer Moises Esquenazi and his partner transformed the property. At his partner’s mother’s urging, the dark front door was painted her favorite color—vivid pink.
The color change was immediately controversial with neighbors at first (vivid pink exterior paint was not a popular Palm Springs color), but it was quickly embraced and spread like wildfire across Instagram once a #thatpinkdoor hashtag began trending.
Designed in 1973 by architect James H. McNaughton, the 5,300-square-foot home was built for entertaining. Designed with a Hollywood Regency scheme, the interior pops with Byzantine blue, pistachio green, and canary yellow accents.
Set against a Baroque stained-glass window is a billiard room with a beautiful mosaic wet bar and a powder-blue pool table. A minimalist dining room is brightened by pink chairs that surround a unique tree trunk table. Pistachio green cabinets steal the show in the kitchen, and a fabulous lounge area has an elevated, built-in chaise lounge, and Claritone stereo.
Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors unveil a lush, green Ficus wall that surrounds manicured grounds, providing total privacy while sipping cocktails at the outdoor bars and grill nooks, lazing in the poolside loungers, or dining alfresco under the clear blue skies.
There are two chances to see this home for yourself during Modernism Week (Feb. 12-22, 2026)! There’s a home tour and a cocktail event.
