BRIEF HISTORY

What comes to mind when you think of Taos? A rich artistic history? Adobe homes? The mystical beauty of the Sangre de Cristo mountains? Taos is a place of incredible beauty that has inspired visitors for generations.

The Athabascan people began settling in the Taos area in 1200 AD and Pueblo structures that date to 1300 AD have been found. Battles and arguments over the territory dragged for years until New Mexico was named the 47th state. In 1915 the Taos Society of Artists was officially formed, and the area flourished as an enclave for creatives.
