Why Park City is The Hidden Gem of Summer Destinations
Utah Olympic Park & Park City Mountain
When it comes to exhilarating outdoor adventure, there are two places in Park City where the offerings are so unique, we decided to include both. Originally constructed for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, The Utah Olympic Park is now home to a museum and a broad range of activities based around the world-class facilities, including summertime favorites: extreme tubing, ropes course, and the ride of a lifetime - the bobsled. As the snow fades, Park City Mountain Resort transforms into a summertime haven filled with activities for the entire family including their legendary alpine coaster and alpine slide.
Woodward Park City
Safely test your inner daredevil at Woodward Park City - a year-round extreme sports training center featuring lift-served mountain biking, skating, BMX, trampoline, Parkour Zone, winter skiing & snowboarding, and more.
Bike Tour Around Park City
Rent a bike from Silver Star Ski & Sport and discover the ins and outs of Park City from two wheels. The town’s rich mining history has been meticulously preserved and most landmarks are accessible via bike. It’ll be hard to take your eyes off the breathtaking landscapes along the way but see if you can spot all three pieces of street art left by Banksy during his movie premiere at Sundance in 2010. Please note, bike rentals will be very limited this summer, as supply is short on bicycles due to COVID.
High West Distillery Tour
Visit Utah’s first legal distillery and see how mountain-crafted spirits are made during a High West Tour located on the gorgeous 3,000-acre Blue Sky Ranch. From milling the grain to the barreling process, you’ll learn all the details behind what it takes to make their special Wasatch Whiskeys. No tour is complete without a tasting and a look into their famous 250-gallon copper still.
Park Silly Sunday Market
For the epitome of a “Sunday Funday” stroll downtown to Park City’s free, open-air market Park Silly. Every Sunday from June 6th to September 26th (except on August 1st and August 8th), tents and stalls offering the area’s best art, music, food, and local goods line both sides of Historic Main Street. This community favorite provides more than just an entertaining afternoon for locals and guests alike, the organization is dedicated to supporting non-profits, local artists and performers, green initiatives, farmers, and small businesses. Throughout the Park Silly Market, Sundays on Main Street are car-free, enabling care-free shopping. This summer, masks will be recommended, but not required.
Deer Valley Concerts
Deer Valley Resort does a phenomenal job of uniting the community through the medium of music with 3 unique summer concert series held at their stunning Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater.
Deer Valley Concert Series
The Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater is home to the Deer Valley Concert Series. This unique concert venue offers hillside viewing from reserved seats as well as a large general admission section. Shows are performed rain or shine, are family-friendly and guests are welcome to bring picnics, blankets and chairs less than nine inches high. For the 2021 concert season, all shows will be at a reduced capacity of 3,500 to ensure health and safety.
Utah Symphony/ Deer Valley Music Festival: The Utah Symphony holds their summer concerts at the Deer Valley Resort Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater, offering a variety of classical, pops & chamber shows as well as collaborations with acclaimed artists.
Grand Valley Bank Community Concert Series
A weekly ritual for locals and a favorite for visitors is the free community concert series held Wednesday nights, June 30th – August 25th, from 5:30 to 8 PM. Seating will be on a first come first serve basis and physical distancing will be required between parties. Please visit mountaintownmusic.org to RSVP.
“Park City Limits” at Silver Star Cafe
For a more intimate music experience, one of our favorite local eateries, Silver Star Cafe hosts an acoustic summer concert series from their outdoor patio. Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening around 7:30 PM, “Park City Limits” offers a dinner show featuring musical guests of all varieties including folk, jazz, blues, americana and bluegrass. You can view the jam-packed line-up here. Sit back and let the music serenade you as you enjoy award-winning local fare, flavorful cocktails, and 360-degree mountain views of Park City Mountain.
Kimball Arts Festival
Ranked as one of the top art festivals in the country, and a personal favorite for us at Natural Retreats is the Kimball Arts Festival. Held the first weekend in August 2021, this 3 day Park City Main Street celebration supports local artists with booths representing more than 200 artists and features live music, gourmet food, and drink and a host of creative and collaborative activities. Proceeds benefit the Kimball Arts Center, a non-profit center dedicated to educating and enhancing the presence of art within the community.
4th Of July
While 4th of July is undoubtedly a well-observed holiday anywhere you go in the United States, no one celebrates it quite like the Park City locals. This year, the festive Main Street Parade is scheduled for Friday, July 2nd at 11 AM. The stunning mountain backdrop makes for an unforgettable Independence Day!
Chalk of the Town
Park City’s Main Street will be more colorful this summer, with the launch of a new chalk art project, Chalk of the Town. Each week, a new artist takes to the street and transforms a patch of sidewalk through a chalk art creation designed to highlight all there is to love about Park City. Follow along as each artist works through the process. Final works will be completed weekly on Saturdays starting May 29th through June 12th, 2021
Mountain Biking & Hiking
While we’ve highlighted the fun-filled Park City summer events, don’t forget the mountains provide endless outdoor entertainment. With hundreds of miles of well-maintained trails, Park City is an international hub for mountain biking. If hiking is your thing, Park City offers easy access to hiking trails from nearly every neighborhood.
Boasting pristine rivers and mountain scenery, Utah fly fishing is nothing short of spectacular. With blue-ribbon fisheries on the Provo and Canyon Rivers, the state ensures that the water is plentiful, the shores are accessible, and the fish keep jumping.
River Rafting the Rapids of Weber River
Utah boasts incredible rafting adventures for fans of whitewater, and Park City is lucky enough to have a diverse range of river offerings. Take a trip down the Weber River with Park City Rafting and choose from 2-hour trips to full-day excursions that are the perfect adventure no matter the size of your group.
Park City Golf Courses
With easy access to 15 golf courses less than an hour away from Salt Lake City International Airport, you can golf in Park City the same day you fly in. The hard part is deciding which Park City golf course you should play first. Park City and the surrounding area are home to seven public and eight private courses.
