Whimsical, Mid-Century Modern Retreat with Casita Overlooking San Jacinto Mountains

Escape to an era of poolside martinis and mid-century modern decor at the former home of socialite Jeannette Rockefeller. The estate, which also appears in the 2008 movie Cat City, features the main house and detached casita, set against a resort-inspired private backyard. For the ultimate privacy, this is a gated property. Take a morning swim in the heated salt-water pool, nap on one of several cerulean chaise lounges lining the water, or play a game of ping-pong or a round of miniature golf as the sun sets over the mountains. Just beyond the living area in an airy, open floor plan is a chic 8-seat dining table, nestled beneath a modern chandelier and framed by white grand piano. Bring a talented friend to add evening ambiance, or simply bask in the Old Hollywood jazz club atmosphere over dinner. A gourmet kitchen with marble countertops and modern appliances including dual stoves and refrigerators, picture windows and plenty of prep space is sure to inspire the family chef.

After dinner, mix a drink in the lively Sunroom styled in the same palette as the great room with a modern curved sofa, geometric-patterned club chairs and a stainless steel bar with industrial-chic stools. For a little lively competition, retreat to the game room, complete with a wet bar and wine cooler, for a round of pool while listening to records on the vintage-inspired record player.

At the end of a day soaking up the desert sun with friends, retire to one of four spacious bedrooms -- three in the main house, and one in the casita. Each uniquely styled suite has a king-sized bed, en-suite bath, Flat screen TV and private access to the backyard. The main-house master suite also features a jetted bathtub and private fridge, and the casita features a Full kitchenette.

Between the outdoor entertainment and relaxing, air-conditioned atmosphere indoors, you may never want to leave The View at Old Las Palmas, but arts & culture enthusiasts will find a trove of shops, galleries and design stores, tiki bars and chic cafes within walking distance. Play a round of golf at one of the many courses within a few miles’ drive, ride the iconic Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, or take a day trip to Joshua Tree National Park.
