Why We Love Llŷn
Yet to set foot into one of North Wales’ most beautiful hideaways? Join us as we explore 10 reasons to fall head over walking boots for unforgettable escapes to the Llŷn Peninsula…
ONE | We’re surrounded by blissful beaches…
From the hidden sands of Porth Dinllaen that are only accessible on foot, to the breathtaking Whistling Sands with it's secret coves and squeaky shoreline, the Llyn Peninsula is edged by the most picture-perfect beaches in the whole of the UK. Whether packing up a romantic beach-side picnic to enjoy with someone special, or grabbing your board and hitting the surf, wherever you find yourself on the Llŷn, you're sure to be close to the sea.
TWO | ...and nestled on the edge of spectacular Snowdonia
Framed by one of the most iconic mountain ranges in the whole of the UK, our luxury cottages in the Llyn Peninsula enjoy breathtaking views of distant Snowdonia. Very rarely can you enjoy a self-catering staycation in a beautiful location that combines both incredible beaches and rugged mountain scenery.
THREE | Our ‘local’ was voted one of the best beach bars in the world
Just five minutes from Natural Retreats lies Porth Dinllaen, a hidden white-sand cove only accessible on foot through the incredible links golf course at Nefyn. Nestled into these secret sands is the Ty Coch Inn, a traditional Welsh pub that commands unforgettable views of the wide turquoise waters beyond. Having been named the third best beach bar in the world in 2013, our local truly is a hidden gem.
FOUR | Award-winning links golf can be found right on our doorstep
If you're planning on taking your clubs to our cosy coastal cottages, there's nowhere quite like Nefyn Golf Club to test your skills! The exceptional links course is just a five minute drive away, and boasts a front nine that literally takes you right into the deep blue waters of the Irish Sea. For those looking for a more relaxed pace, their excellent clubhouse serves delicious lunches with epic views to match.
FIVE | We’re ideal for exploring the Welsh Foodie Trail
From mouth-watering Welsh lamb to the freshest seafood, those looking for a taste of Wales will not be disappointed on the Llŷn. There are a smorgasbord of friendly local pubs serving sumptuous and hearty dishes, dazzling seafront bistros and traditional bakeries, delicatessens and cafes to choose from. Plus, every stay at Natural Retreats receives a complimentary welcome hamper stuffed full of delicious treats including Bara Brith, Welsh butter and wonderful local cheese.
SIX | The watersports here are second-to-none
For adrenaline junkies, the surf in North Wales is something to behold. Nearby 'Hell's Mouth' welcomes thousands of surfers each year to it's 7km of excellent beachbreak, with little ones joining in the fun at the shoreline where the soft sands meet the waves. There are a myriad of surf schools up and down the coast, plus wild swimming, sailing, fishing, jet-skiing, canoeing, kayaking and more!
SEVEN | Our dramatic scenery makes for a photographer’s paradise
From smart-phones to your DSLR, there is always something to snap on the Llŷn. There are coastal walks right from your doorstep to take advantage of, leading you through the hills, over clifftops and down to glorious beaches. Look out for spring lambs basking in the sun, bottle-nose dolphins in the bays or the swathes of golden daffodils swaying in the sea breeze - there truly is inspiration round every corner!
EIGHT | Abersoch, Llanbedrog & Whistling Sands are all within 30 minutes
Famed for it's incredible natural beauty, the Llŷn Peninsula is home to some of the most iconic seaside towns in the whole of Wales. Well-known with those who live within a two hour radius, the star-studded Abersoch is home to high-end boutiques, exceptional restaurants and a sparkling marina, and is just 20 minutes from our cottages on the North coast. Whistling Sands (one of only two spots in the whole of Europe with an unusual squeaking beach) is a short drive South and the brightly coloured beach huts and legendary Iron Man sculpture of Llanbedrog is easily accesible too!
NINE | Rain or shine, we boast the best sea-views
With an incredible position overlooking the far-reaching Irish Sea, our cottages were sculpted around the natural landscape with many boasting fully retractable skylights, floor to ceiling windows and upside down living to take advantages of the vistas. Even on the rare rainy days, watching the skies change over the sea whilst you're curled up with a frothy hot chocolate is blissful!
