Planning For The Big Day with Natural Retreats (The Update)

Having just taken her beloved groom-to-be, parents and in-laws to stay in our Yorkshire Dales lodges, we caught up with our lovely Base Team Manager Kellie, to hear how she's been getting on with her exciting wedding planning after we first spoke to her back in June!

So Kellie, what was the reason behind your most recent trip the The Dales?
Well, as we draw closer to the big day, there were several big tasks that we were preparing to tick off our list - mainly the catering, securing our wedding cake, floristry, meeting our priest, letting our parents bond, ensuring the site was suitable for family with limited mobility and enjoying some peaceful time-out before Christmas. There's nowhere that invites relaxation more than our luxury lodges, and as all of our chosen suppliers are located nearby, it felt like the perfect starting point! We were extremely lucky too as the weather was incredible during our stay, so we managed to squeeze in some beautiful country walks and plenty of time kicking back on the deck with a glass of bubbly in hand!

Wow, a lot to accomplish in a week! What was the first task on your list?
We wanted to ensure that my dad felt comfortable in and around our lodge and the sanctuary as he has limited mobility, and we are pleased to report that the whole process was perfect. Amanda, our fantastic General Manager, arranged for an additional chair in our lodge, elephants feet on the bed to add height, an in-shower chair and other elements that meant we could all enjoy the lodge equally. Top Tip: Lodge No 6. is the most mobility orientated unit and I would thoroughly recommend for those with limited mobility.

Moving on to the caterers, how did you find that experience?
As such a critical aspect of any wedding, we wanted to pick the perfect catering supplier that met our needs in terms of flexibility and price. We'd previously spoken with 'Friends For Dinner' - a Tadcaster based supplier who came highly recommended and were super friendly when first speaking with them. We were invited to their picturesque farmhouse for an initial friendly brainstorm, and returned the following day for a brilliant tasting session. We wanted to celebrate Yorkshire produce throughout the menu and 'Friends For Dinner' accomplished this to a tee. All of their meat comes from a local butcher, they have a low eco-footprint and most importantly all of their lovely ingredients are high quality. We had high expectations prior to our taster, but these were met (and succeeded!) on tasting the dishes - everything was immaculately presented and they made sure there were enough delicious mouthfuls for our whole party to try.

Warm Canapes - Miniature fishcakes, butternut squash tartlets, mini roast Yorkshire puds and horseradish jam, blue cheese crumble tarts, chicken & leek tarts and tomato tartin.
Starter - Taste of Yorkshire Sharing Platter: Homemade pork pies, cold meats, cheeses, homemade scotch eggs, Yorkshire cheeses and juicy fruits. (The perfect way to break the ice between the guests when everyone digs in!)
Main Courses - Trio of Pork (Pork Belly, Black Pudding & Local Sausage) or Chicken Stuffed with Leek Mousse served with dauphinoise potatoes, vegetable parcels and parsnip shards.
Dessert - Trio of Desserts: Chocolate Brownie, Creme Brulee & Lemon Cheesecake

That sounds mouth-watering! Have you managed to confirm the other elements of the big day?
Definitely, we actually used 'Wild Floral Couture' who is headed up by Alison from Friends For Dinner, where we've chosen natural blooms including rununculous in whites and greens. Our cake has also been sourced from Richmond (Edwina's) where we've chosen a 3-tier beauty that we're going to dress with wild flowers and hides chocolate, lemon and traditional Victoria sponge layers. Even our church boasts beautiful cobbled paths, natural stone and peaceful surrounds. St Joseph & St Francis Xavier in Richmond is just moments from Natural Retreats and Father Dan the resident priest was really helpful, giving us an advisory letter full of tips.

Are there any other developments since you've returned back from your peaceful break?
Well, while we were away feasting and organising, we had a call from my bridal shop informing us that my dress was now ready for fittings. Obviously I was incredibly excited and my lovely mum (and he pet pup!) came with me to take a sneak peek too! Glen has also chosen his suit, and we've confirmed my hair-appointment for the big day too. It's been a busy month!

Natural Retreats will be catching up with Kellie again just before her wedding, when all of her well-laid plans have come together, but in the meantime, we hope she has a wonderful Christmas with her husband-to-be!
