The Perfect Day in Cape San Blas
Our team spent a day on the Forgotten Coast, exploring the area and trying out the best restaurants, hidden hotspots, and local activities. Here’s our list, and we promise it’s filled with attractions that offer something for all types of travelers.
Rise and shine, and apply sunscreen liberally to your back for a snorkeling charter in the waters of the Gulf with Seahorse Water Safaris. The Seahorse staff is great, with deep knowledge of the local marine life and ecosystem.
Our trip was a blast: highlights include the beautiful ride from the marina; a fascinating “show and tell” portion led by the boat’s Captain and starring the wildlife we captured; and an absurdly intricate mission to kindly scoop up a starfish.
Grab A Bite At A Local Favorite
Shh, don’t tell the locals we told you about it—but there’s a reason Pepper’s Mexican Cantina in Port St. Joe is always crowded on a Friday night. The Tex-Mex food is superb and the fun atmosphere makes it a great place for a mid-day margarita.
Visit A Historic Landmark
Before you leave town, snap a photo from the top of the Port St. Joe lighthouse.
Happy Hour With A View
Now is a good time to restore your energy, whether it’s from the top deck of your home overlooking the Gulf, or on the beach. Many of our comfortable homes are just steps from the public beaches, so getting down to the water is quick and easy. Stroll down to the sand and allow yourself to rejuvenate under the sun.
Dine At A Seafood Gem
Take our word for it, Indian Pass Raw Bar is one of the best spots on the Cape. This seafood paradise works off of the honor system, so you can grab your own beer before ordering your food (the crab-stuffed shrimp is amazing). We loved the family-friendly atmosphere, and how welcoming the staff and owners were—who came to chat with us while we waited for the restaurant to open. And you’ve been warned; this spot hasn’t gone unnoticed, so you can expect a crowd!
Watch The Sunset From A Different Point Of View
Enjoy a sunset horseback ride on the beach with Broke-A-Toe. These horses are super sweet and the ride was one of the most serene and unique experiences we’ve had. A special thanks to our favorite ponies – Little Man, Ruby, and Shelley!
End Your Day With A Bonfire
Cape San Blas is one of the rare beaches left that allows bonfires on the beach without fire marshal approval, so grab some firewood and head down after dark. But the fire isn’t the only light source on the beach—take a dip in the water and you’ll see the glowing phytoplankton shimmering on the surface! We can’t understate how cool this experience is, especially for your junior explorers.
Now, go forth and have the perfect day on the Cape!
