Our Hebridean Distillery Guide

With the promise of 'Dry January' nearing to an end in 2017, we want you to join us on a journey due north, where we're exploring the incredible breadth of home-distilled tipples found in the spectacular Outer Hebrides. From mouth-watering whiskys that linger on the palette, to crisp botanicals that were made to be mixed, we've got the perfect itinerary for spirit connoisseur's on their upcoming adventure to Lews Castle.

THE ISLE OF LEWIS

Abhainn Dearg Distillery
Home to the most westerly distillery in Scotland, the Abhainn Dearg produces incredible whisky made to a 400-year-old recipe unique to the Scottish islands. The first single malt whisky from a distillery in the Outer Hebrides since 1829, this secret blend of natural ingredients are bought together to create a true taste sensation. The distillery recently launched their 3-year old single malt, and eagerly look forward to 2018, when their 10 year anniversary blend will be available to purchase!

The Hebridean Brewing Company
Located just a hop and a skip from Lews Castle by Natural Retreats, the Hebridean Brewing Company produces a fine range of ales to whet the appetite during your visit. All brewed with pure Hebridean water and containing no additives or preservatives, these complex brews leave a real taste of Island life on the palette. A fantastic new visitor centre is in construction, so stay tuned!

NEARBY, ON THE ISLE OF HARRIS

Isle of Harris Distillery
The now nationally recognised, Isle of Harris Distillery, opened in 2015 and is the first distillery on the Isle of Harris. The incredible wood-cask Whisky was the original cornerstone of the distillery, but now the award-winning 'Harris Gin' refined from delicious sugar kelp, can also be found at this heart of the local community.
