Half-Term Adventures in the Yorkshire Dales

With half-term right around the corner, help your young explorers ditch the iPad, and get knee deep in the great outdoors after a winter spent hibernating inside! With a stay at our luxury lodges in the Yorkshire Dales, your little ones will be spoilt for choice with all of the half-term adventures available on your doorstep. From crisp walks along the River Swale, to 'Galactic Geocaching' at the Dark Skies Festival, there's something for all to enjoy.

All events start at 2.00pm and run until around 3.30pm.
Children must be accompanied by an adult. Adult admission fees apply at the museum.

DARK SKIES FESTIVAL
With some of the best night skies in the country, the Yorkshire Dales is a stargazer’s paradise, and an amazing outdoor classroom for little ones to enjoy. Experience the second annual Yorkshire Dales Dark Skies Festival in 2017, with the following events all within a 50-minute radius of our luxury lodges in Richmond.

RUNNING EVERY DAY FROM 18TH - 26TH FEBRUARY

Children's Activity Trails (10:00 to 16:00) - (Trail sheets 50p)

> Space at Hudson House, Reeth (10:30 to 15:30)
> Animals under the stars at Dales Countryside Museum, Hawes (10:00 to 17:00)

Reeth Dark Skies (10:30 to 15:30) - Hudson House, Reeth
Free astrophotography exhibition by Reeth Informal Astronomy Group.

Painting the Northern Lights (10:00 to 17:00) - Dales Countryside Museum, Hawes
Create your own glittering galaxy or pom pom planet, add to our giant northern lights picture and other craft activities.

Galactic Geocaching (10:00 to 17:00) - Dales Countryside Museum, Hawes
Hire a GPS or use your own, to discover the geocaches hidden around Hawes. (GPS Hire £5)

SUNDAY 19TH FEBRUARY

Dark Sky Run (age 16+) (18:00) - Bainbridge
A sociable, fun and muddy off-road run to experience the dazzling dark skies of the Yorkshire Dales.

MONDAY 20TH FEBRUARY

Children's Planet Trail (under 10s) (16:00 to 17:00) - Hawes
Traffic-free planet bike trail, following clues to win a prize. Bikes available to borrow plus hot chocolate at the finish! £3. Book direct with Stage1 Cycles on 01969 666873.

TUESDAY 21ST FEBRUARY

Space Crafts, Storytelling & Hot Chocolate (11:00 to 15:00) - Dales Countryside Museum, Hawes
Have a go at making your own spaceship, then let storyteller Rhoda Fraser take you on a magical journey while you enjoy a cup of hot chocolate.

Stargazing Reeth (19:00) - The Buck Inn, Reeth
Astronomer Richard Darn introduces you to the delights of the night sky. Followed by open telescope session (weather permitting) Book direct with Cambridge House 01748 884633.

WEDNESDAY 22ND FEBRUARY

From the Moon to Mars (14:00 to 16:00) - Dales Countryside Museum, Hawes
What you need to start stargazing, a drop in session with local astronomer Jack Sutton.

If you go down to the woods tonight. . .(16:30 to 18:30) - Aysgarth Falls National Park Centre
An evening exploring and learning about Freeholders Wood, whittling sticks and keeping warm by the fire. Booking Essential

Constellation Trail at Night (17:30 to 20:00) - Aysgarth Falls National Park Centre
Drop in and enjoy the different experience of the woods at night. Café open for hot drinks and open telescope session (weather permitting)

A Ride on the Dark Side (age 18+) (06:00 to 08:00) - Hawes
