We meet Stacey, Xplore Team expert for the UK & EU, to find out more about life at Natural Retreats...

Stacey as part of the Natural Retreats family – where did it all begin?

At 16 I was searching for a summer job in-between leaving school and starting college, and an exciting vacancy for a housekeeper became available at Natural Retreats Trewhiddle (which was right around the corner from where I lived in South Cornwall!). I started college but I soon started missing the fantastic atmosphere and beautiful surroundings of Trewhiddle, so I returned to a part-time position, and before long made the transition to full time. I was keen to progress within my role as Natural Retreats really nurture our team, and through an opportune spell as Assistant General Manager in the Yorkshire Dales and then temporary Team Leader in Trewhiddle, I finally made the big move ‘up North’ to Natural Retreats HQ as a proud member of the concierge team, where I’m thoroughly enjoying helping our guests to discover their next unforgettable stay!

As a travel lover, where’s next on your Xplore bucket list?

My next destination to discover (I’m hoping!) is Iceland. There’s so much diversity and incredible landscapes, and it offers something incredibly different to the usual holiday destinations. I’ve recently travelled to Rome, which I fell in love with, which makes me eager to explore all of the beautiful villas and cosy apartments that form our ‘Handpicked in Tuscany’ collection here at Natural Retreats!

What makes Natural Retreats so different to other travel companies, from your point of view?

Every aspect of our guests’ stay is just so personal. From the moment they pick up the phone and speak to myself or one of our team, to their magical arrival at their holiday home and our welcome home catch-up, we take every opportunity to make their stay unforgettable. The whole guest experience is so enjoyable, and ensuring their stay goes above and beyond genuinely makes us smile – I think our dedicated concierge service amongst everything else makes the stays extra luxurious.

If you had to pick, which is your favourite Natural Retreats hideaway (Trewhiddle is a given!)

John O’Groats, without a doubt! I’ve only been able to make a flying visit so far, but it is just so spectacular and completely different from the rest of our collection. You truly feel like you’ve arrived at the end of the earth – the views are breath-taking! The lodges, apartments and cosy Storehouse have a real contemporary feel, making for an indulgent stay.

With your insider knowledge, can you share your Top 3 experiences for guests to seek out during their next visit to Trewhiddle?

1. Austell’s Restaurant – this incredibly popular eatery might appear rather ordinary from the outside, but looks are in this case very deceiving. Stepping inside, the mouth-watering creations on offer from Head Chef Brett (former student of Jean-Christophe Novelli) and his hard-working team are unforgettable - it’s no wonder that within 6 months of opening this hidden gem earned 2 AA rosettes and a Michelin guide listing! Plus, it’s just a 10 minute drive from our luxury villas.

2. Carlyon Bay Beach – This newly revamped stretch of white sand transforms into the coolest beach-side hang-out during the summer months, dotted with swaying palms, gently lit by fairy lights and boasting an incredible atmosphere to match. The legendary Sam’s On The Beach set up a resident pop-up shop here, serving mouth-watering seafood and wood-fired pizza and spontaneous surf-side gigs are hosted here most weekends. Definitely one not to miss!

3. While Cornwall is famous for blissful beaches, I like to head off the beaten track and search out the less crowded sunny spots. Perranporth, just outside of Newquay, is on the same coast as Fistral Beach but is quieter and still boasts the same epic surf. The ‘Watering Hole’ pub is nestled at the edge of the beach and is great for grabbing a drink and feeling the sand between your toes. There’s live music here too, plus it’s completely dog friendly!
