We’re looking forward to these eight ways to enjoy Seaside Getaways in October 2017! It’s always a great time to head to our beautiful and historic South Carolina coast, and it’s especially so when you get to Fall in love with our lowcountry. Just take a look at what’s coming up, soon:
23rd Annual Beaufort Shrimp Festival
October 6 and 7, 2017
You know the shrimp is on when our friends and neighbors down at Main Street Beaufort, USA and the South Carolina Shrimp Association come together to celebrate our favorite crustaceans. Join us at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park for the best shrimpin’ fun you’ll ever have, with around 15 local restaurants and their best shrimp dishes. Admission is FREE and be sure to purchase $1 tickets to use towards the food and beverage booths. Most items cost between two and eight tickets. Also, be sure to vote for your favorite restaurant in the People’s Choice Award. There’s lots of family friendly and kid friendly fun like a Shrimp Heading competition and a Shrimp Peeling competition. Adopt a shrimp in the Sea Island Rotary’s Rubber Shrimp Race to cap off this annual celebration!
Beaufort Food Truck Festival
October 14 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Our Lowcountry Jaycees rock and they know good food, too! Keep on truckin’ until you meet us at the Santa Elena History Center for lots of family fun and great food. This will be food truck heaven and there's FREE admission, too. Proceeds benefit the Jaycees’ statewide residential camp for individuals with cognitive disabilities (ages 7 and older).
Pat Conroy Literary Festival
October 19 - October 22
This year’s theme is the Transformative Power of Education in honor of Pat Conroy as teacher and student. It’s the second year for the festival and it will feature panel discussions, readings, book signings, film screenings, dramatic performances, tours, receptions, exhibitions and workshops. Enjoy meeting and mingling with fellow readers and writers and become immersed in Pat Conroy’s adopted hometown of Beaufort.
Anne of Austria – A Woman’s Life in the 16th Century

Anne of Austria was Queen of Spain from 1549 to 1580. We’ll take a look at what it was like for this inspiring woman; who had to meet her family’s expectations. We will delve into her history, including her arranged marriage and multiple births, up until her death.
Night On The Sound 2017 at the Maritime Center
October 21 @ 5:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Let’s take a walk on the wild side with America’s favorite zookeeper, Jack Hanna! There’ll be cocktails, dinner, live entertainment and a silent auction. Jack’s a world renowned conservationist and he’ll share some of his amazing experiences with animals from around the world.
Fall Festival of Houses & Gardens
October 27 @ 1:00 pm - October 29 @ 4:00 pm
We always say, “Live like a local when you come…” and this is a wonderful way to do just that. Take a stroll and visit some of the most beautiful private historic homes and gardens in Beaufort. You’ll experience three centuries of lowcountry architecture on this self-paced walking tour, in addition to an inside look at magnificent homes that are rarely open to the public.
Spartina Eco-Boat Cruise

Our friends down at Port Royal Sound Foundation have arranged for another incredible adventure to live like a local. We’re heading out on the beautiful Chechessee River for a water excursion with Captain Amber. This largely untouched area is perfect for a leisurely scientific expedition with plentiful wildlife. Touch tanks with seasonal crabs, shrimp, and fish will be aboard, as well and Captain Amber will explain the ins and outs of a saltmarsh setting. Reservations are required. Tickets are $45 for adults and $30 for children.
Halloween ComicFest 2017
