Yorkshire Dales Development

2008 has been an incredibly exciting year at Natural Retreats - Yorkshire Dales,   with the construction of 9 further residences    along with the refurbishment of the existing residences and the construction of the Sanctuary. This brings the total to 20 residences although looking at the site you would never notice the development, so skillfully have they been integrated into the site.

In particular, July and August have been extremely eventful and we are delighted to have been operating at virtually 100% occupancy in all available residences. We are delighted to be able to report that the landscape wasn't adversely affected during the development and is recovering well.

The new residences extend further our commitment to contemporary stylish natural design and in order to ensure our guests enjoy a consistently unique experience we have also undertaken a complete refurbishment of the existing residences to bring them up to the same high standard both in design and furnishings.

The Sanctuary

We are pleased to report The Sanctuary is progressing in line with development programme and is due to open in December. The original metal frame has been fully restored; the stone walling exterior is now complete and the internal fit-out of the building will be initiated now that the roof is in place. The design of this building has been maximised to allow guests to fully appreciate the spectacular views of the Swale valley and beyond towards the North York Moors.

Wildlife

We are delighted to be able to welcome some new guests to Natural Retreats - 7 Moorhen chicks, a new Roe deer fawn and a Grey heron, who have all chosen to make Natural Retreats - Yorkshire Dales, their new home. We like to think we provide a warm welcome to all guests and I'm sure these new additions to our wildlife will provide an interesting diversion for guests.

Such is the popularity of our location, many guests have asked in the past whether we can recommend walks in the area. Our staff have always been keen to help with their local knowledge but now we have gone one step further (to coin a phrase!) and collated our favourite walks into an easy to follow set of local guides. Guests can now enjoy walks of anything from 40 minutes around the site up to a challenging few hours in the dales and surrounding areas. These walks also take in some of the best scenery in the area and local wildlife (including our Moorhen chicks!)

Sale of Units

We are delighted to be able to offer you the opportunity to own one of our award winning residences as part of a limited sale offer. There are many reasons to visit and a forthcoming event caught our eye in particular, The town will be hosting a ten day walking and book festival to give you an opportunity to experience the delights of the local area. Books & Boots, Walks & Words offers a choice of activities and events that are good for the body, intellect and soul. Whether you're attracted by the walking or the books you'll discover Richmond is a great place to be.

New Locations

Great news for those of you wanting to know more about our plans at other locations in the UK,.We have received planning permission for Dawnay lakes in North York Moors and will be looking to open a new Natural Retreat there sometime in 2009. In addition applications have been submitted to an exciting location in Snowdonia and at Lower Borrowdale in the Lake district and we are looking forward optimistically to the planning committee meetings in the next couple of months. Watch this space!

RICS Pro Yorkshire Awards

It's nice when others recognise what we have known all along so it is with great pleasure we can report that Natural Retreats environmentally friendly principles were recognised recently within the construction industry when it was awarded Runner Up in the category for Sustainability and shortlisted in the Design & Innovation and Tourism & Leisure categories of the RICS Pro Yorkshire Awards 2008.

We have also just won a Travel Bulletin Green Initiative Award for our outstanding contribution to green travel, beating off competition from some of the industries most notable brands.
