Get hooked on Cornwall this August at Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week
A Natural Retreats holiday in Cornwall not only offers the chance to explore the amazing Cornish beaches or marvel at the stunning scenery; it also provides the opportunity to be part of the many family events hosted by the region throughout the year. Take Falmouth for instance; it has many great museums, a wealth of maritime culture and is home to one of the largest sailing regattas in the South West.
Plans for Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week 2010 are well under way, so why not be part of this prestigious event? From 7 – 14 August, a winning combination of yacht races and a packed schedule of lively shore-side activities will see 80,000 extra visitors come to the town compared with every other week in August. Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week is the largest regatta in the South West, rivalled only by Cowes Week and has evolved into a family friendly festival. More than 450 yachts will race in 3 fleets over 8 days and that’s just for starters.
What better way to spend a week than by indulging in some Cornish luxury self-catering with a beautiful Natural Retreats residence as your base for visiting this massive sailing regatta? The week’s events have been carefully planned to combine the traditional elements with a fresh spirited list of entertaining events designed to enhance the days sailing attractions. The traditional aspect of Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week remains the Falmouth Classics Yacht event, Henri Lloyd Dinghy Week and racing for over 26 different classes of yachts, hosted by the seven Sailing Clubs and the Regatta committee around Falmouth Bay.
It’s a Family Affair
The family-friendly fun kicks off with the Falmouth Classics event and a spectacular Marching Carnival. Throughout the week a variety of activities at Events Square, the Princess Pavilion, Maritime Museum and Pendennis Castle will involve local businesses, town residents and the wider community. Surf Life Saving GB will be holding their National Championships for over 1000 Surf Life Savers aged 7 to 70 plus at Gyllyngvase Beach all week – the biggest event of its kind ever to be staged in Falmouth. Traditional craft and dinghies can be seen in the waters of Falmouth Bay, the Carricks and the Harbour and with six days of match racing for keelboats and an awe-inspiring aerial display by the Red Arrows you’ll never be stuck for something to watch, whether it’s out at sea or in the air.
Back on the shore, a lively schedule of entertainment is planned throughout the day and evening. The launch of an impressive new 30 metre, purpose built, Island bar is sure to add to the celebratory atmosphere. 2010 also sees the return of the popular Falmouth Fun Night at Custom House Quay, with a return challenge between the Falmouth Marine Band and the Falmouth Working Boat Association- they will be re-enacting Custer’s last stand at the Battle of Little Big Horne – you won’t want to miss it. Alongside the highly anticipated Caribbean Night visitors can look forward to BBQ’s, a “Deck Shoes & DJs” Casino evening and a Champagne Day on the last Saturday. The finale to an incredible week is a magnificent firework display over the Harbour.
Events are not limited to Falmouth, so if you want to venture out and explore Cornwall, take advantage of the special activities planned in St Mawes, Mylor and Flushing.
